Section

You will find Section in the Website layer, alongside the rest of Layout. In practice it means this: a self-contained horizontal band of content within a page.

It is a label with a settled working definition, so the value is in using it the same way every time. Once it is defined that clearly, arguments about it usually stop.

You will usually meet Section in site builds, page structure and the technical decisions underneath them. It normally appears alongside Layout, Component and Template. The practical test is whether everyone in the room means the same thing by it.

Section is cheap to get right early and awkward to fix late. When it is unclear, the site still launches — it just quietly underperforms. Clarity here removes a surprising amount of downstream argument.
