Page View
also called pageview
One loading of a page by a visitor.
One page opened.
What It Is
Page View sits on the Measurement side of the work, in the Engagement area. Stated plainly: one loading of a page by a visitor.
It is something measured and compared over time, so one reading in isolation tells you almost nothing. That is the version worth keeping, because it survives contact with a real project.
How It's Used
In practice, Page View shows up in reporting, analytics reviews and the arguments about what the numbers mean. It is usually discussed together with Session, Unique Visitor and Analytics. The practical test is whether it is measured the same way each period, against something.
Why It Matters
Page View is one of those items that only becomes visible when it is missing. When it is unclear, reporting becomes a matter of opinion. It is worth pinning down before anyone builds on top of it.
It is a number on a dial. The number only means something next to yesterday's number. One page opened.
Termshift™
How the meaning shifts depending on who is using it, and where.
Practitioners use Page View as shorthand and expect no explanation — one loading of a page by a visitor.
Outside the industry, most people would just say: one page opened.
The Bottom Line
Treat Page View as a decision, not a description. One page opened.
